My existence is a life-long treasure hunt.

Notes From The Weekend

Jesus Christ on a cracker. Back to your regularly scheduled blogging program.

*So I up and caught the flu for no reason. Or at least, “flu-like symptoms”. How the hell do you know if you have the flu or flu-like symptoms? I am at the end now (I hope) and I thank you all for your well-wishes, especially ChocolateOrchid for checking on me periodically!

*I am the Natural Belle of the week over on Hairspiration, check me out! Thank you again for featuring me (it says natural for 4 years, but it’s been 3 years and some change)!

*I watched The Wrestler, Bubba Ho-tep, and Pineapple Express over the weekend.
The Wrestler: Good movie, wonderful acting.
Bubba Ho-tep: If this isn’t one of the brokest movies of all time, I don’t know what is. That’s what the appeal is though. I met my demise toward the end of the film where the villain/mummy starts cursing in hieroglyphics.
Pineapple Express: This movie was a tad over-hyped (and so unnecessarily violent, lol) but it did have its funny moments. “FUCK THE PO-LICE (in slow-motion)!”

*I have recently been in awe of all the big-ass pickup trucks I see driving around Houston. I mean like unnecessarily, Canyonero big. I am in awe because:
1. I wonder why I’m just now noticing all these big-ass trucks because
2. This MUST be a Texas thing right? MrsMaryMack, Tanijoy, Desiree, TheHoustonGirl, any other Texas lurkers help me out. Are ya’ll seeing these too?
3. It makes me realize that not only does one country have a unique culture, but regions cannot be under-estimated for their own culture. Like seriously, you wouldn’t see this in New York, California, Oregon, etc.
4. THAT makes me then wonder how much we underestimate other regional cultures of other countries. Vesper, does Canada differ noticeably in culture depending on region? What about England? I know Italy and South Africa do. What about Australia? Anywhere else?

That’s all my congested ass can—wait that sounds gross. That’s all my congested self can think up right now. Blogging shall resume! Have a magical day!

On big trucks- I think it IS a Texas thing. I never had the desire to own a truck until I needed transpo and all I could find was a truck…now I want the biggest, most gas efficientest (not a word), most hybrid arse truck I can find! My car was in the shop once and my rental was a Suburban…there’s nothing like a small framed women behind the wheel of a speeding big truck to make people move the hell out of the way! I will lead the “cute girls with big trucks” movement! OLI hope you feel better soon!

  2. haha wow get better girl!

  6. MMM: I know what you mean. I drive a ‘crossover’ because the Texan (and shorty) in me wanted to sit up high, lol.Chanel, LMK: I’m almost A+ again, thank you!ChocolateOrchid: I know, I thought I’d better re-phrase that, lolAlicia: LOL I was hoping someone would get that reference…did you click to see the commercial? Aw just as I’m feeling better you feel bad? Get better now! Thank you!

  7. I’m in downtown Dallas and I rarely stray far from home so all I see are the luxury vehicles that all the $30,000 millionaires drive. I’m sure if I got out to the suburbs more I’d see more trucks but I don’t notice them as much down here.

We definitely, definitely have our regional differences here in Canada, though I would say that people in Vancouver, for example, have more in common with people in LA than they do with people in Calgaray, Alberta…for example. And those in Toronto share a lot of similar mentalities with New Yorkers, etc. We have our prairie folk and our hicks, cowboys, etc. I’m originally from the prairies of North Dakota, and hicks are hicks no matter where you go. (I’m not saying that all people from the prairies are hicks, but there sure are a lot of them!) That said, I’d say there are more similarities between provinces than between states in the US. In the US, laws can be radically different from State to State, and I don’t feel that as much here. But that’s more of a legal thing than cultural. I don’t think I’d feel in my element if I moved to one of the prairie provinces…unless it was close to a university. I lived in Alberta for a short time, and kept close to home because the people generally had intensely conservative, traditional, and even backwards attitudes. That’s a huge generalization, though, and some of the coolest, most open-minded people I know come from the prairies.

  10. Desiree: Oh yes, that’s a whole ‘nother bag of beans there!THG: OMG YES! That is what I was trying to convey as well. The tires absolutely kill me! I’m scared to even look at them sideways.Vesper: Very interesting! Though the point you brought up about state laws varying is legal; it can also be an indicator of cultural differences too. Thank you for sharing the differences in the provinces.
