2002-2008? Birth control pills
March 2010: Begin tracking the days we have sex in the fertile window according to fertility calculators online. Not officially “trying”, just tracking.
July-December 2010: Still tracking. Notice some days we didn’t try but didn’t prevent were right in the fertile window (specifically July, November, and December).
December 2010: My friend gives me her box of ovulation predictor kits.
January 2011: Officially trying now. Using OPKs and basal thermometer to chart my cycles on fertilityfriend.com
March 2011: I’M PREGNANT!!!! Conceived the week of the “super-moon”.
April 2011: Pregnancy loss at 5 weeks, 2 days.
April-October 2011: Keep charting temperatures, using OPKs, trying different supplements and regimes. No pregnancy.
November 2011: Stop using OPKs since my ovulation has proven to be pretty consistent. Still charting my temperatures.
December 2011: See my OBGYN. Have hormone levels tested (all normal), HSG (my tubes are clear).
January 2012: Stop charting my temperatures. My cycles are fairly consistent and I am confident I can do this without charting at this point. Charting had become too stressful as I could often tell a cycle had failed 4-5 days before my period started (due to my temperature dropping) and it was just a burden. I feel better, lighter now that I don’t chart. I see the RE (reproductive endocrinologist) and she runs more tests (waiting on the results now) and wants me to start Clomid + IUI. I can’t do it this cycle because they found a cyst on my ovary (Clomid makes cysts worse) so I go back at the start of next cycle to see if it’s gone.
February 2012: Trying naturally one last time (assuming the cyst will be gone next cycle). Bought guaifenesin (to thin out cervical mucus, making it friendlier to sperm) and baby aspirin (to thin out the blood and assist implantation). Going to buy preseed (sperm-friendly lubricant).
Update: Preseed came in but never got to use it. However, something worked because I got a positive pregnancy test on February 25th! I believe it was the baby aspirin. Details to come.
*My average cycle length is just over 28 days. My average ovulation day is Day 14. My average luteal phase length is just over 14 days.
