Since this may be my last “free” cycle of trying to conceive, I’m going Cirque Du Soleil in this bitch.
In addition to my food-based vegan pre-natals and my algae-based (instead of fish-based) DHA (omega fatty acids essential to fertility, healthy pregnancy, etc.) that I take every day, I am using the following supplements to get crunk with this cycle:
Baby aspirin: Will be taking 1 low-dose aka baby aspirin every day to assist with implantation of the fertilized egg
Mucinex: Basically, regular Mucinex (and Robitussin or store-brand) has 1 active ingredient: guaifenesin, which loosens mucus. This is important when trying to conceive because if you have hostile cervical mucus (which I suspect I do), the sperm cannot reach their destination before dying. Guaifenesin loosens it and makes it more friendly to sperm.
Evening primrose oil: You may remember me talking about this from this post. While Guaifenesin loosens mucus, it doesn’t produce more of it if you don’t have any. It’s for quality, not quantity. EPO is supposed to address the quantity issue. It did not have any noticeable effect on my mucus when I took it, but it did help my cramps (sadly that benefit seems to have run out like the invincible super star on Mario Brothers). But, I don’t mind giving it one more try. Also, a woman from one of the fertility boards on which I post said her naturopath also recommended EPO to help get rid of her cyst….the same kind of cyst that cock-blocked me from doing Clomid + IUI this cycle.
Pre-seed: A sperm-friendly lubricant. Most lubricants have spermicides, but preseed supposedly mimics the fertile cervical fluid. So this combined with the evening primrose oil and guaifenesin should have me well prepared.
So that’s my arsenal this cycle. I’ll also be drinking lots of water like always and minimizing or eliminating all caffeine as I get closer to ovulation. Let’s go.

Wow I feel so incredibly guilty for taking conception and pregnancy so lightly. I have my fingers and toes crossed for you guys.
and yeah you saidCirque Du Soleil and all i could think of was a sprained groin muscle…..
Make sure ya stretch
Hey girl! Miss seeing your blog around. Yeah, I would have never thought conception was so….INVOLVED. One little thing off and that’s it. Let alone multiple things off. Then to think of everyone who gets a positive pregnancy test and KNOWS there will be a baby. Don’t think that way anymore, either. But I’ve learned so much about how our bodies work. It’s amazing.
You have enlightened me so much with this post. I had no idea that the medication we take for one thing would affect things in our reproductive areas! Thank you for the research and information. I wish you all the best this cycle.
